Reformer Pilates

What is Reformer Pilates?

Reformer Pilates is a type of exercise that uses a special machine called the "Reformer," which features a sliding carriage, adjustable springs, and various attachments to provide resistance. Developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s, the method was initially created to help people recover from injuries, combining strength training with flexibility and alignment exercises. Pilates used springs from hospital beds to build the Reformer, which allowed users to perform controlled, resistance-based movements.

After Pilates' death in 1967, the method spread and became more popular in the 1980s and 1990s, especially in the United States, as Pilates gained recognition for its benefits in rehabilitation and fitness. Over time, the Reformer became a key component of mainstream fitness, evolving into a dynamic workout that targets core strength, flexibility, and body awareness. Today, Reformer Pilates is widely practiced in fitness studios around the world, offering both rehabilitation and high-intensity training options. Its growth reflects a broader trend toward functional fitness and mindful movement.
